Tips to Creating Custom Dashboards Quickly in Dynamics CRM

Quick and easy access to a large amount of data is what Dynamics CRM Online 2011 is all about. A custom dashboard, and the easy ability to create one based on your personal work habits/needs, is an interesting feature of Dynamics. This post will focus on how to create a personal dashboard quickly and easily. Following these steps below:

Step #1: Understanding the difference between a “system” dashboard and a personal dashboard.

A “system” level dashboard is a default dashboard. These are ready for use at the time you deploy your Dynamics CRM 2011 instance. While these dashboards can be modified, the modifications generally are done by your system administrator or by someone with the rights and privileges to do so.

A personal dashboard is one that is generally set up by a user in question or perhaps a business leader with the rights and privileges to do so. Business Leaders/Managers generally do this to set a uniform approach to the work environment.

How to create a “personal” dashboard:

The first step in creating a personal dashboard is to ensure that you have the role/privileges to do so. The easiest way to confirm this is by looking at the “ribbon” in the “workplace” entity. If the controls are “gray”, then this means you do not have the privilege. Contact your Manager or System Admin for further details.
